Volunteer award night success
Volunteers were celebrated in an awards evening which took place on Wednesday 29 November at The Wortley House Hotel.
The event took place to recognise and celebrate the brilliant work our tenants and volunteers have done throughout the year.
Starting at 7pm and finishing at 11pm, the night saw over 60 tenants and volunteers attending along with our staff to help with the celebrations.
Consisting of a pie & pea supper, award ceremony, entertainment, a quiz and dancing, the night was enjoyed by everyone.
The award ceremony had 10 categories including Volunteer of the Year and Project of the Year.
Wendy Wolfe, Customer Engagement Manager, said: “Our Volunteer Awards Night has become a firm favourite in the Ongo event calendar each year. It’s a fantastic way to get all of our volunteers together to celebrate the great work they’ve done and also an opportunity for us to say thank you to them for the support they’ve given Ongo over the last 12 months.
“Picking winners for the awards is always difficult, but it’s great to reflect on the last 12 months to see just how much our tenants help in shaping the direction of our organisation.”
Liam Robinson, Ongo Volunteer said : “I’m very happy to have won the award and feel proud to be part of Ongo. Nights like this are important because they make us feel appreciated, and recognise the work we all do.
“Ongo have supported me a lot and have made a massive difference to my whole outlook on life. I’ve really enjoyed volunteering and am excited to take my experience and new skills forward, and hopefully get into employment."
Tim Mills, Ongo tenant and volunteer said: “Winning the volunteer of the year award is an amazing honour, and I couldn’t be happier.
“Our community group have really made a difference this year, we’ve done lots of work in reducing ASB, including installing new cameras, putting events on and gardening work. It’s so rewarding to see the difference you make in improving people’s quality of life.
“The best thing about being a volunteer is that we do make a difference, no matter how big or small, you are making a difference to people's lives. I really feel like Ongo support us a lot to make a difference in the community. I know that as tenants, we get listened to and that’s why I love volunteering so much. Every single volunteer invited, that gives up their time for free deserves the recognition, so thanks to Ongo for organising the evening.”
