Award nomination for Haxey bungalows

We and our partner TG Sowerby Developments Ltd are pleased to have been nominated for a prestigious housing award.

Thirteen, two-bedroom bungalows on Hallcroft Close, Haxey, which were completed in May 2015, have been shortlisted for the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development in the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) South Yorkshire and Humber Building Excellence Awards 2016.

The homes, off Blackmoor Road, had tenants moving in just hours after completion and form part of our commitment to delivering rural affordable housing.

The LABC South Yorkshire and Humber Building Excellence awards recognise and honour the most impressive construction developments and projects in the region, for their outstanding quality work and excellence in both design and construction.

This is the second year in a row Ongo Homes and TG Sowerby Developments Ltd have been shortlisted in this category. Last year it was for Karen Court, off Haig Avenue, Scunthorpe - a housing scheme for people with learning disabilities. It was highly commended.

The awards evening will be held at Forest Pines on Thursday 12 May 2016, where the winners will be revealed.

Martin Phillips, Development Manager for Ongo Homes, said: “It’s fantastic news we’ve been shortlisted for a second year in a row in the Best Social or Affordable Homes Development category.

“We want to create homes people want to live in and can be proud to call them their home. The bungalows at Haxey were designed to be modern and spacious, and to compliment the surrounding homes in the local community.

“We were also very pleased we could allow people to move in just hours after the homes were completed so they could start enjoying them straight away.

“This nomination reflects how we are working hard with our locally based supply chain partners like TG Sowerby Developments to make a real positive difference in local communities by creating much needed new homes in both rural and urban locations.”

Steve Sowerby, Managing Director at TG Sowerby Developments Ltd said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for an LABC Award again this year and very proud for it to be on another Ongo Homes scheme.

“This project was totally different to what we worked on last year for Ongo Homes, but equally as satisfying.

“These awards recognise all the hard work that goes into building homes to this standard. We would like to thank Ongo Homes for entrusting us with this project, and everyone who was involved for making it the success it was.”

There are 12 different categories for the awards including:

  • Best extension or alteration to an existing home
  • Best local builder or traditional craftsperson
  • Best change of use of an existing building or conversion
  • Best individual new home
  • Best new housing development
  • Best social or affordable new housing development
  • Best public service building
  • Best educational building

The awards are sponsored by Flamehold Fire Protection Solutions and Cofely Suez. It has been organised by the seven South Yorkshire and Humber Local Authority Building Control services
