The benefits of being an apprentice

Shazeeda Aktar is an admin apprentice at Citizen's Advice Bureau. She has been working there since October 2015 and is currently working towards her Level Two Business Admin qualification.

We did a Q&A with her to see what she likes about being an apprentice.

Why did you apply for an apprenticeship?

I find that working and learning at the same time is most effective.

What have you enjoyed most about your time as an apprentice?

I love the fact that I am able to interact with people from all walks of life on a day to day basis.

What have you learnt from your apprenticeship and what would you like to gain?

I have learnt a lot about people’s rights and responsibilities in different aspects of life.

Tell us about a ‘normal’ day for you as an apprentice?

I communicate with people face to face and via telephone. I also deal with different enquiries as they come in.

Why would you recommend doing an apprenticeship?

Because you earn a brilliant qualification as well as gaining experience so you can apply for a job with the certificate you will get at the end of your apprenticeship.

Why would you recommend businesses take on apprentices?

It is rewarding to help young people to understand and get into the working environment.
