Celebrating International Men’s Day
Today marks International Men’s Day, a global occasion that shines a spotlight on the positive contributions men make to the world, their families, and their communities. It is a day to celebrate role models, promote wellbeing, and highlight the importance of connection and support.
This year, we wanted to celebrate the work of Men in Sheds, a local hands-on community group that is making a real difference. Their workshops are more than just spaces filled with tools and timber – they are welcoming hubs where people come together to make, repair, and repurpose items and supporting local projects.
By reducing loneliness and combating social isolation, Men in Sheds is helping members build stronger connections and improve their wellbeing.
Earlier this year, Men in Sheds received funding through our Community Grants project, which has been empowering local groups for over 13 years. In 2025 alone, 27 community-focused organisations shared £35,000 in grants. Since its inception, the project has provided more than £160,000 in vital funding to over 120 groups, ensuring that initiatives like Men in Sheds can continue to thrive within our communities.
As we mark International Men’s Day, we invite everyone to recognise and celebrate the positive impact of groups like Men in Sheds. Their work reminds us that when people come together, they can build more than just projects – they can build lasting friendships, confidence, and stronger communities.
