We’ve been shortlisted for the Resolve Anti Social Behaviour (ASB), ‘project of the year’ award for our approach to tackling ASB in the Westcliff area of Scunthorpe.

Resolve ASB is the UK’s leading housing based organisation, specialising in delivering effective solutions to anti social behaviour.

The project shortlisted focuses around the creation of The Arc, a community health and wellbeing hub in Westcliff, Scunthorpe and how this new space is helping to reduce ASB in the area.

Claire Coyle, Housing Services Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award. It’s great to be recognised for the hard work our teams and partners have done to really try and make a positive different to our Westcliff community.

“Since The Arc has been open we’ve seen lots of positive changes in the area, and we’re engaging with so many more local people than ever before. We’re also able to work much more closely with our partners such as the police, community groups and the local authority to have a much more cohesive approach to tackling ASB. Our Raising Aspirations project offers mentoring support for young people, fun activities, training and career exploration, all of which have positively engaged youths in the area.  ”

The aim of The Arc is for it to be a space that the whole community can use and enjoy. Whether this is visiting the Post Office, calling in for a coffee at the cafe, dropping their children at the nursery or accessing the many support services available to them. The support services includes Housing Officers and Benefit Advice Officers from Ongo to assist with housing and money advice, North Lincolnshire Council’s Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Humberside Police and Westcliff Community Works; the local community charity.

Since opening in May 2017, lots of community groups and activities have been set up such as ‘knit and natter’, bingo sessions, healthy lifestyle sessions and family mornings at a weekend. These have all been really well received by the local community and one tenant, Steve Mills really enjoys the social side to attending The Arc: “I’m new to the area so I thought I’d come along to The Arc to see what it was all about. It’s good to come here and meet new people and try out the different activities. There’s always something going on to get involved in.”

The award evening takes place on Tuesday 2 April at St Johns Hotel in Solihull.
