International Women’s day 2023: Doing the job you love
As we celebrate International Women’s day, we wanted to this year, highlight breaking the stigma of gender specific job roles.
International Women’s Day takes place on March 8 and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
This year the focus is #EmbraceEquity, challenging gender stereotypes, calling out discrimination, drawing attention to bias, and seeking out inclusion.
Throughout our organisation we have many women breaking the stigma, working in what are considered to be male dominated industries from trades, to innovation and technology and finance.
One example is our Development team, with five members in total, and three (60%) of those women. According to Business Leader ‘99% of the UK’s on-site construction workers are male’, showing how uncommon women working in this industry is.
Georgie McGuire, one of our Development Project Managers said: “Within construction and many other areas there is still clear disparity that needs to be addressed.
“I’m a real advocate that if you work hard, you can achieve whatever you want, and that should be the case irrespective of gender.
“I feel like it’s important to raise awareness of women, like myself, who are working in male dominated roles, so that girls can grow up and be whoever they want to be, in a job they love.”
