New retirement living scheme in Gainsborough

Brand new affordable retirement living apartments are to be built on North Marsh Road in Gainsborough.

The scheme of 24 apartments will be available to rent. They will be owned and managed by us and will be built by local firm, Gelder Group.

We've received support from Homes England and West Lindsey District Council, with grant funding of more than £1.5million to deliver this project. The work is expected to cost around £3million.

It will provide much needed affordable homes for over 55’s wanting to live close to the town centre in Gainsborough.

Work will start on site in November 2018 and is expected to be complete in early 2020.

This project will offer work experience opportunities for students at Gainsborough’s Career College. Four students will be based on the site gaining hands on site experience to complement their college based learning.

Martin Phillips, Development Manager here at Ongo, said: “This is a really exciting project to be working on with Gelder Group and West Lindsey District Council to provide much needed affordable housing in Gainsborough.

“These apartments will be built to a really high standard and offer a new form of retirement living in Gainsborough. We are very happy to be able to invest in the town and help the local authority to deliver on its growth ambitions.

“We feel this partnership with the local authority and local building contractor Gelder Group, is the way to ensure local people are employed working on local priorities, and we look forward to further opportunities in the future.”

As previously reported, West Lindsey District Council was awarded housing Zone designation, a government initiative, to accelerate deliver of housing on brownfield sites.”

The development is one of the sites within the Greater Gainsborough Housing Zone.

Diane Krochmal, lead officer for strategic housing at the Council said: “We have been working with Ongo and the Gelder Group for a number of years to bring much needed affordable homes to the town. We are delighted to see the development commence.

“The district in line with national trends has an aging population and we look forward to being able to offer more retirement options.”

Steve Gelder, CEO of Gelder Group adds, this project has been a long time in the making so it’s very exciting that it’s finally arrived. We look forward to working closely with Ongo & West Lindsey District Council to deliver a scheme that everyone can be proud of. On this site we will be employing local people, sourcing products locally where possible & involving many of our Gainsborough based apprentices. It’s a very exciting project.”

Caroline Cormack, Head of Home Ownership & Supply for Homes England in the Midlands said: “Homes England has supported Ongo with £1.2 million of funding through the Shared Ownership and Affordable housing Programme in order to deliver these brand new affordable retirement living apartments in Gainsborough. This is a great example of Homes England working with local authorities and housing associations to deliver the right kind of housing to meet the needs of their communities.”
